I, Petrina Adamson of Whatadane Great Danes first got into GREAT DANES back in the 1990's when I was married and started to look at such a large animal and what it would be like to live and have one. I started to find out a lot about them in the way of what they ate, how much they ate and what sort of space would this sort of dog need.

I then started to look into a lot of breeders and viewed a lot of Great Dane shows and championship dog shows to see this breed in action. At this point in time I also did breed DALMATIANS. After a couple of years I was still showing the Dalmatians, my husband at the time said "I think we are ready to get a GREAT DANE now!" I just took a look at him and I said "Really, well that's nice, well, I don't even know where to start to get a GREAT DANE - HA-HA, you are just too funny!"

Well, within the next couple of weeks there was an ad in the Sydney Telegraph on a Saturday, it was for a black male great dane being of 4-6 months of age and it was of pet/show quality. So in the car we both went all the way down from the North Coast of New South Wales to look at this big male black dog in the outer suburbs of Sydney. When arriving at Sydney we pulled up the driveway to look at this dog, all this slobber and drool was coming out of his mouth, I said to my husband at the time "You honestly aren't thinking of getting that thing are you?" "My goodness look at it" Anyway, we drove out of the driveway with the dog in the back of the Torana with this massive dog sitting in the back of the car. What a trip I will never forget that day, that dog could have driven the car and we could have ridden that dog home he was so big. He slobbered everywhere, I had such a mess to clean up when I got home. My husband was smiling, I just shook my head. Within 6 months we were back to get another GREAT DANE off the same breeder being a black female bitch and we were hooked.
These days I show and breed GREAT DANES as a hobby with my son Corrie as we are still in love with the breed like we were from day one. My son is 8 years of age and has just started showing them also, he helps me so much around the place I would be lost without him. He has his own dog being a black male great dane so it is amazing how the past always becomes the future again-Ha-Ha!

At our kennels we are" LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE" in the way of striving to keep good temperaments and substance. My style of a great dane is EUROPEAN and this will always be my love. As from day one the bigger the chest the better the type of Great Dane. To our kennel the major importance is to breed a Dane whom has a front to drive the back as movement, substance and temperament are the three main key features to owning a GREAT DANE.
